Table Mountain Hiking Tours

From the unfit, to the moderately fit, to the super-charged athletes, we have a range of guided hiking options on Table Mountain!  Standing at 1,087 meters above sea level, Table Mountain certainly is majestic and well worth it’s acclaimed title as ‘The 7th Wonder of the Natural World’ and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

SUMMIT STROLL

For those looking for the easiest option, we can spend half a day on top of Table Mountain and ride the cable car up and down!  Once on top of Table Mountain we traverse the top of the mountain to Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point and take a circular route back to the cableway station along the front edge of the mountain.  The terrain is mostly level, so you get spectacular views but without the hard work of hiking up and down!  This hike on top of the mountain is around 2-3 hours.

Rates R1,900 per person including hotel pickup and return cable car tickets.

PLATTEKLIP GORGE

The oldest and most direct hiking route up the mountain, and some would say ‘easiest’ hiking option when not using the cable car to ascend the mountain (not to be confused with easy, this still takes a lot of energy!), the Platteklip Gorge is the most popular route to summit Table Mountain.  There is a well-constructed path on this route, with hardly any exposure to heights or scrambling.  Also seeing as it is on the North Face of the mountain, you have amazing views of the city and Table Bay.  To hike the mountain up the Platteklip Gorge takes around 2 & ½ hours to the summit and excludes time taken riding the cable car down the mountain, so this is a perfect half day tour option.

Rates R1,900 per person including hotel pickup and cable car descent down the mountain.

INDIA VENSTER

Possibly the best half-day route to hike to the summit.  This is for more experienced hikers and starts on the north face of the mountain with city views and then swings around to the west side with superb sea views.  There is scrambling involved on this hike and exposure to heights (narrow ledges) so not for the faint hearted!  This hike takes around 3 & 1/2 hours and excludes time taken riding the cable car down the mountain.

Rates R1,900 per person, including hotel pickup and cable car descent down the mountain.

KASTEELSPOORT

After hotel pickup, this route starts in Camps Bay.  We hike the western side of Table Mountain and up a chain of peaks known as the ‘Twelve Apostles’.  There are amazing sea views on the ascent and we visit quite possibly the best photo spot on the mountain, called ‘Diving Board Rock’. This route has a varied terrain and is for experienced hikers and takes around 4 hours, excluding time riding the cable car down the mountain.

Rates R2,100 per person, including hotel pickup and cable car descent down the mountain.

SKELETON GORGE

This is a fabulous hike and one of our favourites for all abilities, provided you have time for a longer hike!  After hotel pickup we head straight to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens where our hike begins.  We follow a ravine covered in Afromontane forest to the summit, from where we go to the highest point on the mountain and then traverse the whole flat tabletop to the cableway station.  Our last views are over False Bay and the City.  This hike takes around 4 ½ hours and excludes time riding the cable car down the mountain.

Rates R2,400 per person including hotel pickup and cable car descent down the mountain.
