Overnight Safari Tour
For our guests looking for a few nights on safari whilst in Cape Town, we have a fantastic overnight safari option which is perfect for those wanting to experience the magic of a safari but don’t want to travel to the north of the country for a traditional African safari.
We appreciate not all of our clients have sufficient time to factor in the flights and transfers which are involved with our traditional African safari offerings around the Kruger National Park, which is where this overnight safari option really comes into its own.
Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, positioned at the foot of the Warmwaterberg Mountains, is a 58,000 hectare Private Game Reserve and as it’s only a three hour drive from Cape Town, is accessible for a few nights on safari.
Sanbona Private Wildlife Reserve is in a malaria-free region and boasts the Big 5, that being Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Buffalo & Leopard, as well as an abundance of smaller animals, all of which are free roaming and self-sustaining. The reserve sits in the most beautiful setting, with sculpted Cape Fold Mountains, wide-open Karoo plains and indigenous flora & fauna. The vastness of this landscape, along with the stillness and isolation amid raw beauty, make Sanbona truly unique.
We have selected the Dwyka Tented Lodge as our preferred accommodation for our guests at Sanbona. These nine luxury tents, with private decks and plunge pools, are set in a horseshoe bend of a dry Karoo ravine and in a beautifully weathered landscape. You have the option to dine alfresco or in the boma and there is also a relaxation retreat with an extensive range of treatments and therapies to rejuvenate your body and soul.
We depart Cape Town early on day one, arriving at Sanbona for lunch after a stunningly beautiful drive along the Garden Route. After check-in and having lunch, you will depart for your first afternoon 3-hour Game Drive on an open-sided 4×4 game vehicle, with a Game Ranger to see what animals you can sight. This safari experience is second to none. Upon arrival back at the lodge you can freshen up before having dinner and enjoying some drinks under the African sky. After a good night’s sleep, you will awaken early for your second 3-hour Game Drive, again off out to explore the wilderness and all the animals that inhabit that area. Breakfast is then served back at the lodge before a late morning check-out for those staying just one night and we are waiting to start our journey back to Cape Town, arriving late afternoon.
For those staying more than one night, your day would then repeat with lunch, afternoon game drive, dinner, early morning game drive etc. We ideally recommend a minimum of 3-nights on safari to get the most out of the experience.
This experience can be for just one night or a couple of nights (we ideally recommend 3 nights), depending on how much time you have. Rates from R17,300 per person per night, including return transfers, accommodation in Dwyka Tented Lodge, all meals & local drinks and 2 Game Drives per night stayed.
You can have return transfers by helicopter to Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, Rates from R34,550 per person per night, all-inclusive as per above.
